Splashing in the river!

We took Caroline and Abby to Pisgah Forest Saturday morning to play in the Davidson river. They had a great time splashing and getting wet! We held them under their tummies and let them "swim" upstream. They absolutely loved it! They are such fun girls and we love taking them on adventures!

We took them on a not quite as successful adventure Friday night. I thought it would be fun to book a room at the Pisgah Inn for our fifth wedding anniversary and bring the girls. We checked in and went to dinner. We had a beautiful view from our table and the food was pretty good. Caroline and Abby did not have much patience for our anniversary dinner though! They drank 2 and a half glasses of ice water out of a straw and then used their straws to eat ranch dressing for dinner. Delicious! When we were halfway through our meal, they decided they could not sit in those silly highchairs any longer. Caroline sat on my lap and proceeded to squirt butter all over me and tee tee in my lap! Lovely! Abby sat with Daddy and wiggled and squirmed while finishing off the ranch dressing. Finally, dinner was over and we had a great time playing with the girls in a field overlooking Mt. Pisgah. Michael and I then got the girls ready for bed, put them in their pack n plays and went outside on the porch to enjoy the evening. After an hour of jumping, laughing and playing together the twins were not asleep. The crickets were loud and our neighbors on the porch were loudly solving all the world's problems so I think Caroline and Abby were a little distracted from falling asleep. At 10:15 Michael and I made a quick game-time decision to drive the 30 minutes home to get a good night's sleep in our own beds! It was a nice thought to get away with the girls, but it didn't work out quite as planned! We still had a wonderful anniversary and are so thankful for our five years! It has been awesome! We had a great Saturday playing in the river and then Aunt Courtney, Matt and our friend Carrie were in town visiting. We had so much fun with them! Carrie's in town all week taking a class so we are excited about seeing her often!

Oh goodness, sorry it didn't turn out as planned, but I guess we've all gotten used to this, huh? I'm glad it was only a 30 minute drive to get home! I hope they went to bed when you got home and didn't stay up partying!

Happy Anniversary! You're reminding me why we haven't taken "the boys" on a vacation yet. We might try it when they're teenagers-HA! This will surely be an anniversary to remember and laugh about someday. I got your comment on my blog. We have some cute "caveman" language going on in this house, too. It's so neat because they know exactly what they're talking about. I wish they'd clue me in :o)

good for you guys 'trying' an anniversary trip with the girls. we haven't been anywhere alone since we had Trip 3 1/2 years ago. we just got back from a mini vacation to celebrate our 7th anniversary. it was really nice to have some time by ourselves without the kids, but i was really happy to see them when we got home.
